I don’t know about everyone else, but I’ve been listening to a lot of podcasts lately. Unsurprisingly, about true crime.
A recent favorite of mine is definitely Someone Knows Something by David Ridgen. It is a CBC podcast about cold cases, and it is absolutely fascinating. If you like investigative journalism, true crime, or cold cases, this podcast is for you. Season 6 is going to be released tomorrow, and I can’t wait!
Basically, David goes and investigates cold cases, interviewing friends, family, policemen, and anyone and everyone who might know something. Whether it was a child that disappeared on a fishing trip (S1) or two murdered young African American teens (S3), none of these people could’ve just died or disappeared without someone seeing or hearing something. David gathers as much information as he can, and that’s what turns into the podcast: the stories of not only the victims, but of their families and friends and communities. People who were changed forever by what happened, and were left with very little explanation as to how or why.
The goal of the podcast is to find people who may know something, and bring attention back to these cases. They may not be forgotten, but leads are hard to come by for officers who are investigating cold cases.
Some cases will remain cold, but the eyes and ears of multiple countries taking are taking note of them. After all, someone has to know something.
