Hi there! I know I’ve been a little MIA lately, but between work and house hunting, I’ve been SUPER busy (and stressed tbh).
First of all…. houses are expensive. BUT after this whole process, I am 89% sure that everyone could afford a house if it wasn’t for downpayment. I have no idea how regular people with bills Dave up that much money. If I hadn’t had the job that I did for six months (relocatable, so no bills) there is no way we could afford it now.
We have almost been successful in our search. We have made two offers. The first offer was on our dream house, and we got outbid by literally $10,000 and I’m still honestly upset (and maybe a little bitter) about it.
The second offer was on a house that was nice and had everything we wanted, and it was accepted. Unfortunately… it only looked nice. The (expensive) inspection showed a lot of expensive problems in our future, and that’s not what we want as first time homebuyers. We aren’t looking for a forever home, and we aren’t looking to spend thousands of dollars to fix foundations and central heat and air.
As a buyer, my goal is to find a place I’d like to live for 5-10 years, until I either have the money saved up to build a house (or buy new construction) in an area where I want to raise the children that I will inevitably be having around that timeframe.
Unfortunately, in the DFW area we are competing with other buyers as well as investors. If I had a dollar for every time I saw “great investment opportunity” or “sold as-is” on a house description, I’d have my inspection money back already.
It’s probably one of the MOST discouraging things I’ve had to deal with in a while, and I work in marketing. COVID has not been kind to marketing.
After everything is settled, I’ll definitely try to post more again, but until then, wish us luck!!
