Cinco de Mayo is nearly upon us, and nearly all the bars in the USA are closed! You may be asking yourself: “Where will take our tequila shots? How will we get our margaritas?”
It can only be made worse by the fact that the stars truly aligned for 2020. In mostly terrible ways (the whole WW3 fiasco, the world wide pandemic). BUT Cinco de Mayo just so happens to be on TACO TUESDAY this year! I’m going to preface the rest of this by saying that this is definitely not to make light of the pandemic. The truth of the matter is people are dying and we should be staying at home. People are losing their livelihoods every day that the country is closed, and the only way the country can open (safely) is if everyone is safe and smart and the virus stops spreading. My state (Texas) is opening partially this week, and I expect that two weeks from now will not look great for us. I will either be pleasantly surprised, or I’ll be working from home for at least another couple of months.
Anyway. The good news is most restaurants are doing take-out or dine in, so you can still get your tacos. Personally, I don’t think it’s a great idea to open restaurants, even if Texas says so, so I’ll be eating at home or grabbing some tacos to-go and I recommend anyone reading this do the same. AND if you don’t want to grab a to-go margarita kit while you’re there, I happen to have a basic margarita recipe from my lovely boyfriend! Perks of dating someone who’s been a bartender. You will need:
Tequila of your choice
Lemon Juice
Lime Juice
Orange Juice
Triple Sec
Agave Syrup
Ice
Mason jar
You start by combining 2 ounces of tequila, half an ounce of lemon juice and half an ounce of lime juice in your mason jar. Next, add once ounce of agave and 3 ounces of orange juice into the jar. Add ice, put on the lid, and shake it! Pour it into the cup of your choice (mine is a pusheen travel mug), and top it off with half an ounce of triple sec and agave to taste! Salt on the rim and a lime wedge are optional.
I don’t know about y’all, but margaritas are one of my favorite drinks, and I like this one from Noah quite a bit. I hope you enjoy it, too, and have a great (and safe) Cinco de Mayo!
