Time Flies at Disney World

Unless you’re cleaning the kitchen. Then the day never ends.

It’s really weird to think that I’ve been here for nearly two months! Some days it feels like time isn’t moving forward at all, but it definitely doesn’t feel like it’s been that long since mom and I drove down here. I’ve had really good luck with my work schedule, so I’m not closing as much, which means I’m not as unhappy to be there. What can I say? I really hate cleaning the kitchen.

I started off the first day of this update by going to Epcot before work. I almost didn’t go (I didn’t want to get out of bed), but I decided to get up and barely made my Soarin’ fast pass. I ate lunch in the Land building, and I went to the Pixar Short Film Festival! They have some really cute shorts there right now, including Piper, which I distinctly remember Sarah showing to me a year or two ago. It was neat that it just happened to be one of the shorts that they’re playing right now. Then I had to go to work, and I actually did close, but I drew ovens! I was honestly really excited about it. After work some coworkers and I went to another coworkers apartment and hung out, and but the time I finally got home I was really glad that I had the next two days off!

Sarah was home in the morning on Friday, so we got to hang out for a little while before she went to work! We went to Walmart and watched Monster’s University, and then we had to start getting ready for our respective plans. For Sarah that meant work, and for me that meant going to the World Showcase with some friends. We got margaritas in Mexico (I definitely didn’t know that it was National Margarita Day, happy coincidence), food in Japan, and then walked the rest of the way around before the park closed. I’ve met a lot of really cool people while I’ve been here, and it’s always good to spend time with them.

On Saturday I bought my Universal Pass and went to Animal Kingdom! It didn’t all go as planned though. My car is about 4 years old now, so I guess it was time for my battery to die. Luckily, there was a bus that I could get on to get to the park, and I decided to do that instead of sit at home and be upset about the car. I went on Dinosaur, Everest (still one of my favorite rides), and went on the Kilimanjaro Safari! It was evening by that point, so we saw a bunch of animals (rhinos, lions, elephants, giraffes, etc.). I ate at the Satu’li Canteen in Pandora, and then I met one of my friends at the bus stop and we went to Magic Kingdom! We went on Splash Mountain (another one of my favorite rides), Big Thunder, and the People Mover! It was a long, interesting day, but it all turned out okay. The next day I had work, and then I went to Jellyrolls with some friends to celebrate a birthday! Jellyrolls is at the Boardwalk, and it’s a dueling piano bar. It was a really cool place, and I would definitely go back just for the music.

On Monday I had a “class”, which was actually the Undiscovered Future World Tour in Epcot. One of my roommates was going, too, so we went together and I got Starbucks before it started! We got to see VIP areas in Future World, and learn about the vision that Walt had for the park. I also learned that there’s a huge aquarium in Epcot that I didn’t know about? And if you’re scuba certified you can dive in it, so I guess I need to add that to my list of things to do. After that I came home and took a nap, and then I went back to Epcot with two of my other roommates to see the last Disney on Broadway show! It was the last day of the Festival of the Arts, so they had four of the performers there for one big show. We saw Ashley Brown, Kissy Simmons, Alton Fitzgerald White, and Josh Strickland. They were absolutely amazing. We also rode Frozen Ever After, which was a new ride for me! It was really cute, and the wait time was really short so it was definitely worth it.

On Tuesday I started register training, so that was interesting. It actually isn’t that bad, but I still think I prefer being in the kitchen. After work I went with Sarah to Panera for dinner and then Disney Springs. We wandered around and watched the new How to Train Your Dragon, and I really liked the ending, so I guess it was worth wandering around Disney Springs in the rain.

Wednesday was basically just work. I finished my register training, so now I can be assigned register shifts or trade for them. I actually already have some on my schedule, and I would be lying if I didn’t say I’m not terribly pleased about it. But the good news is that register is the only thing I close for the next week, so I’m starting to think maybe it won’t be so bad.
